How Australian salvage auctions work
Australian salvage auctions sell vehicles that may be damaged, written off, recovered, or otherwise unsuitable for normal retail sale. The auction listing is the source of truth, so buyers should inspect the details, understand the bidding rules, and confirm costs before committing.

What is a salvage vehicle?
A salvage vehicle is generally a vehicle sold because of damage, insurance recovery, condition, age, or another commercial reason. “Repairable write-off” is a specific category and does not mean every vehicle can be registered or repaired economically.
The typical buying process
Buyers usually search listings, review photos and inspection information, calculate transport and repair costs, then bid or use a buy-now option where available. The successful buyer completes payment and collection directly with the auction provider.
- Read the full listing and condition notes
- Check auction closing time and buyer requirements
- Budget for fees, transport, repairs, and compliance
- Verify the vehicle at the source before bidding
Where BidRadar fits
BidRadar monitors supported auction sources and alerts you when a listing matches your filters. It does not inspect, sell, transport, or bid on vehicles.
